Our Story

My photo
Ben and I met in 1996, began dating in 1999 and married in 2001. Now 20 years and 2 children later, we have returned to where our life together began. Ben works for the Federal Reserve and I have the privilege of staying home with our two precious boys.

Spring Break at Mimi's - McWane Science Center

We have had a wonderful Spring Break! Daddy had to work but the boys and I started out at Mimi's. We met her on Saturday at the McWane Science Center in Birmingham. It was A-Mazing! The boys have been to many children's museums before but this was one of the best we have ever visited!

They started out giving the weather forecast on the green screen. They loved seeing themselves on TV.

Then it was on to the Itty-Bitty City where there were all sorts of activities waiting for them!
Water activities...
 Suction activities...
 Conveyor belt

Gravity in motion
 Hands-on garage
They had a blast changing tires
 And fixing the muffler
They also replaced the battery and tuned up under the hood
Then it was on to the Vet's office
 The fire station
And the garden
Then Caden found his little piece of heaven....a HUGE train track
After that it was time to outrun the dinosaurs
 And dig for fossils
Then they became scientists and studied slides under a large microscope
 And geologists to study rocks
Slid down the 2 story slide
And somehow manipulated these blobs with their hands on a screen. I still haven't figured out how this one worked!
After that, they created sand patterns on a spinning turntable
And made designs on a giant Lite-Bright....I so remember these from my childhood!
Then we headed to the lower level to the Touch and Feel Shark Tank
Where, of course, Ethan had a million questions :-)
And back upstairs to the giant bubble room
And virtual reality game station where Caden loved playing the drums
Then they took a break to have a dance party
Before bouncing a tennis ball to a target on the ceiling

Then Ethan found an air hose and ball to demonstrate the science of flight
until he figured out that he could use the hose to make the ball fly anywhere

Then Ethan took a little break to play some basketball
And they practiced with a gravity wheel until Ethan ran the wheel over Caden's finger...
And had to sit in Time Out
After time out, Ethan tried to lift his weight
We played with a few more things at the McWane Center and spent some time in another children's playground inside the center before heading to dinner at the mall. They finished up with ice cream and a ride on the carousel to celebrate their special day with Mimi.
What a fantastic start to Spring Break!
