Our Story

My photo
Ben and I met in 1996, began dating in 1999 and married in 2001. Now 20 years and 2 children later, we have returned to where our life together began. Ben works for the Federal Reserve and I have the privilege of staying home with our two precious boys.

This, That, and the Turkey Trot

So Ben has a new obsession, actually it was a childhood hobby that has recently made a reappearance and he is doing his best to bring Ethan and Caden into the madness. With the new Star Wars coming out, Ben and the boys have gotten interested in comic books and there are several local comic book stores they like to check out. Mommy, on the other hand, is a little annoyed that my 4 and 6 year old have a fluent Star Wars vocabulary. They are a little too young for this craziness!?!?!

Caden went on his very first field trip a couple of weeks ago. He was so excited and felt like such a big boy after watching Ethan go on so many field trips with Shadowbrook. And of all places his first field trip was a visit to the train museum. He was in heaven!

I'm not sure why I didn't take more pictures but the boys had a terrific time at our church's fall festival. It was a great night of food, fun, games, and great music!
We were thrilled to see sweet friends singing on stage!

Turkey Trot

And then it was time for Shadowbrook's Turkey Trot. We were very proud to have Uncle CJ join us this year! Even though he was not too excited about running ;-)
Last year Ethan spent more time complaining about running than actually running. This year he was a champ and ran almost the whole race!
The first feather for his turkey after lap 1
But Daddy AKA Marshmallow Man, Uncle CJ, and Caden moved at a much slower pace
Ethan finished way ahead of the rest of the gang and earned all of the feathers for his turkey
Finally, the rest of the crew picked up their pace and finished the race
And everyone earned their turkey feathers!
It was a great morning for a run!
So glad that we get to do it again next year!

Halloween

Only a couple of weeks behind...

The day before Halloween Ethan had a superhero dress up day at school. They also had a pumpkin painting party. He chose to go as Spiderman and had a blast decorating his pumpkin with his classmates!
 Hard at work!
My sweet boy with his amazingly wonderful teacher :-)
That afternoon, the boys carved their pumpkins and put them on the porch. Caden got super excited for Halloween a few weeks early this year and convinced Ben to carve a Yoda pumpkin for him even though we told him that it wouldn't last 'til the big day so he got to add a face to his new pumpkin while Ethan got to "help" Daddy carve a dragon.
The next evening, Darth Vader (Ethan) arrived
 As did Spiderman (Caden)
 Yoda 1
 and Yoda 2 (Ben)
Then it was time to Trick-or-Treat

I forgot to mention Princess Leia joined us on our trek as well. Caden decided months ago he wanted to be Spiderman so as our household joined the masses in the Star Wars phenomenon he remained steadfast in his decision :-)

Pumpkin Patch with Mimi

A few weeks back we went to an amazing pumpkin patch near Mimi's house! I was blown away by all they had for kiddos to do and I didn't even get pictures of all of it!

This minion greets you when you first arrive :-)
Then the boys played in a huge corrugated pipe slide built into sand and giant tractor tires to use for climbing
After that they moved onto the hay mountain to climb and jump on
Followed by hide and seek inside the tractor tire
We took a little break for some swing action

Before tackling the "real" climbing wall
 Success!
 Some corn angels...Ethan's idea ;-)
 A little bounce house action
And then a short wait in this line to slide down the longest, steepest slide Caden had ever been on

A little more bouncing and sliding
Then some horsey riding. I loved these!

 And some corn hole
A visit to the pumpkin stand
Followed by a trip through the corn maze

Then we slowed down long enough to pet some animals
Before jumping on the hay ride to go find our pumpkins
Ethan was too cool to sit with us so he made some new friends
 Love this face!
Then each person got to pick their pumpkin from the patch

What a wonderful afternoon! I definitely think we will have to make this amazing place a new fall tradition for our family!
