Our Story

My photo
Ben and I met in 1996, began dating in 1999 and married in 2001. Now 20 years and 2 children later, we have returned to where our life together began. Ben works for the Federal Reserve and I have the privilege of staying home with our two precious boys.

Spring Break Day 2 - Jamestown

The next day we drove over to Jamestown learn more about our heritage. First stop was the park ranger photo booth
Then we walked over to the tower commemorating the Jamestown colony
  The church at Jamestown
 Pocahontas
Cannons were definitely a highlight for Ethan and Caden
Captain John Smith
The model of the fort surrounding Jamestown
I'm guessing these were cooking pits, but I never saw a sign
The boys got a kick out of seeing the Jamestown Ferry crossing back and forth across the river that day
After visiting the site of the original colony, we headed over to Jamestown Settlement to learn more about their way of life. Again, cannons were a hit.
Then the boys got to speak with a settler who let them try on some armor :-)
And we visited the home of a colonial woman who had prepared a meal
After that, we stopped by the blacksmith's shop, who was making some nails
Then a surprise visit from a snake!
Followed by a visit to church
where Ethan tested out the pulpit
While most homes were quite barren, there were a couple of individuals who obviously were wealthy, as their home contained many items that none of the rest of the village had.
Ethan and Caden were mesmerized by the musket demonstration once we finished seeing the buildings in the colony.
Then we walked over to the three ships they came over on. There was one passenger ship and 2 smaller ships with a crew of about 9-14 each that held cargo. This was one of the boys' favorite parts of the day!
 Cannon!
 At the mast
 Steering
 Folding flags
After that, we were almost out of time for the day but we quickly walked through the Powhatan Indian Village.
 Their Wampanoags were so cool!
And the boys wrapped up the day by grinding arrowheads with an "Powhatan Indian."
 It was another terrific day!
